LAW MMA UPDATE
**Weigh ins for UFC 109 are set for later today for the show tomorrow night at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, we will have a preview in the update Saturday prior to the card.
**Dana White stated on Friday that the number for UFC 108 last month headlined by Rashad Evans Vs Thiago Silva is in the neighborhood of 420,000 buys, which is a mind blowing number considered all of the injuries that ravaged that card and had little buzz going into. White estimates that tomorrow night's card will do about 385,000 buys, which is ludicrous if last month's show did that high of a number as Couture and Coleman has a lot more marquee value than Evans and Silva, however that 108 number does indicate to me that the last season of TUF did make Evans a star that people will pay to see and has made that leap. I think White's new strategy is to predict low and than the numbers greatly exceed public expectations. Vince McMahon should come out and predict 400,000 buys domestically for WrestleMania right now.
**Many outlets are reporting that UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar is hopefully of returning to the octagon for the rumored July 3rd UFC 116 event in Las Vegas, Nevada. That same card is also likely to feature Tito Ortiz Vs Chuck Liddell coming off of the ‘Ultimate Fighter 11' season.
**Here is the updated main
card lineup for UFC 111 on March 27th in Newark, New Jersey:
*Georges St. Pierre Vs Dan Hardy for the UFC
Welterweight Title
*Frank Mir Vs Shane Carwin
for the Interim Heavyweight Title (if neither gets injured they will fight
Lesnar in the summer, if there is an injury than the winner of the Feb 20 Cain
Velasquez Vs Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira fight will be next for Lesnar)
*Thiago Alves Vs Jon Fitch
- this was just confirmed today and is a rematch from a June 2006 fight that
Fitch won by 2nd round TKO. This loss eats away at Alves and when I
last spoke to Thiago this was the fight he wanted more than any other. The
winner of this fight will have to be guaranteed next in line for the winner of St. Pierre and Hardy.
*Ben Saunders Vs Martin
Kampmann
*Mark Bocek Vs Jim Miller
**Tyron Woodley is the
latest name added to the EA Sports MMA video game that comes out later this
year.
**On the UFC video game front Brock Lesnar will be on the cover of ‘UFC Undisputed 2010'.
